Jenine & Adam Engagement {Dexter, MI}
Jenine and Adam met up with me on a blustery autumn morning in the town of Dexter, Michigan, **spoiler alert** which is also the town I grew up in. These two cuddled well in the doorways and on stoops of many local business as we explored together. For the second half of our shoot, Jenine and Adam schlepped a hot chocolate picnic into the wilder side of Mill Creek Park. Jenine also had packed some light reading material: With Cortés the Conqueror by Virginia Watson, published in 1917. It seemed like every sentence read was a gem. Enjoy these few highlights from the shoot. I look forward to their wedding next spring!

Zach & Abby Engagement {Kalamazoo, MI}
Some time ago, I met up with Abby and  Zach in downtown Kalamazoo for an engagement shoot. We started at The Heritage Company (which has a delightful amount of texture) and then proceeded to The Black Owl (a pretty big deal) for a few more images. It's great to know what little I do of these two and I look forward to being around them again for their Kalamazoo wedding. Summer 2016! Enjoy these highlights.

Amy & Tom Wedding {Grand Rapids, MI}
Tom and Amy were married in a swanky Gatsby themed wedding this past September. The wedding party was small, just a sibling on each side, and guests were encouraged to dress up in period attire. There were gorgeous flowers, beautiful historic cars, and perfect weather. Above all was the commitment these two made to one another. The ceremony took place in a breathtaking sanctuary at Saint Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church. The reception afterwards was held at CHCC. By the way, if you want to remind yourself of their engagement photos, here's a link to those. We'll start with Tom's initial reaction to seeing Amy. From there we drove ...

Adam & Leah Engagement {Kalamazoo, MI}
Leah and Adam met up with me on a bright, hot day this past summer. The challenge was to find interesting areas around the university where they fell in love, while at the same time limiting our exposure to the sun. By the end of the shoot there was a good breeze blowing and these two had relaxed substantially. Adam and Leah clearly have fun together and that sort of relationship is nice to be around. Their wedding will be next autumn! Enjoy this small sampling of highlights.

Christopher & Emilia Wedding {Lawton, MI}
Emilia and Chris were wed on a really hot, buggy day this past summer. They were fortunate to have both their ceremony and reception at Lawton Community Center though, so spirits stayed high throughout. What follows are a few highlights. Chris, surrounded by his best friends. Emilia, with stunning gown and flowers. The emotion at the start of the ceremony and the sweet excitement at its conclusion. Side note: the car you'll see featured is a stunningly restored 1941 Cadillac. Enjoy this glimpse into their day. Show these two some love.

Emily & Colin Wedding {Berrien Springs, MI}
This past July, I met Emily for the first time in person on the morning of her wedding. She and her ladies-in-waiting were all gathered at The Boulevard Inn to prepare. Photographic documentation started with hair and makeup. After everyone was ready, we headed over to the ceremony/reception site. I'm making an effort to concentrate the blogposts. Show fewer photos. Tell more with less. What follows is my attempt to distill all the day's emotions into a few handfuls of highlights. The only other words I'll say are these: it brings me great joy to, for a little while, enter into the midst of such loving and supportive family at a very impor ...

David & Colleen Wedding {Ann Arbor, MI}
David and Colleen are authentic people. They don't hold back on their laughter or tears, which speaks to how intentionally and in-the-moment they live their lives. You could feel the weight of commitment (and tremendous senses of humor) through their homemade vows spoken during the ceremony. You got a glimpse of their strong character and steadfastness in the speeches made by others during the reception. It's clear that friends, family, and coworkers realize what wonderful beings these two are and it was such a pleasure to intersect their paths with my own. Below is but a small selection of highlights from their Ann Arbor Wedding. Please e ...

Michelle & David Wedding {Bloomfield Hills, MI}
Michelle and David were extremely blessed on their wedding day. That is to say, more than most couples are. There were several storms throughout but all of our events took place inside so nothing distracted these two from their commitment and celebration. A quick aside, if you'd like to see their engagement shoot photos, here's the post. Things started out at the reception venue for the girls, where they got ready. You know what they say: "A nice country club interior beats the blue cinderblock walls of a nursery" (you'll see a shot of both). Enjoy your scroll through these memories. The guys got ready at the church. B ...

Caroline & Shawn Wedding {Dexter, MI}
Caroline and Shawn were married in my hometown of Dexter, MI. I grew up with Caroline playing the role of "best friend's youngest sister" so imagine the mix of emotions when she approached me about photographing her wedding. The relationship between these two developed and grew through their involvement in New Life Church, which is a vibrant community of students and "grown ups" on the campus of the University of Michigan. There was such an intentional commitment in Shawn and Caroline's wedding ceremony. From the washing of feet, to the worship songs being led by siblings/close friends, it all was very measured and very meaningful as a res ...

Drew & Karly Engagement {Kalamazoo, MI}
I met up with Drew and Karly a few weeks ago for an engagement shoot around town. These two are clearly going to have a lot of laughter in their house. We started out with some nooks and crannies in downtown Kalamazoo, MI before ending up #OnAParkingRamp. After an outfit change, we drove North to a grassy area on the side of the road. Drew brought the chair. All that plus some nuzzling and Voila or "wah lah" as the English say.
