Chris & Meg Wedding {Ann Arbor, MI}
Chris and Meg had an intimate wedding last month at Zingerman's Events. Starting with a less-formal marriage license signing (officiated by Paul Saginaw) we then headed over to the Museum of Natural History for a few pictures where Chris and Meg had one of their first dates. Take notes, people. If you're looking for fun/original date ideas, ask these two. Dinosaurs are awesome. Back at the event space, the traditional ceremony took place among a group of around 30 people (counting the staff). Afterward, people socialized, imbibed, and snacked as the space was flipped for dinner. I relished the opportunity to be a part of such a candid envi ...

Dave & Colleen Engagement {Ann Arbor, MI}
Dave and Colleen are two really fun people to be around. Colleen has a great smile and Dave makes wonderful conversation. Colleen is a sucker for a cartwheel opportunity (gif below) and Dave makes jumping look effortless. What follows are some of my favorite images from our time together during their engagement shoot in Ann Arbor. Their wedding will be in about two months from now so you don't have long to wait until these fantastic people are in front of my lens again. What you see above is our new invention. It's a skirt clip to allow for free cartwheeling (Patent pending). here's a gif of the invention in action: ...

Rachel & Bryan Surprise Engagement {Kalamazoo, MI}
Trying new things is one of my favorite aspects of photography. I've been photographing people for about five years now and this is actually the first surprise engagement that I've been a part of. Bryan contacted me some time ago about a doing some sort of couples shoot with his girlfriend where, during the shoot, he would propose. We worked through the details over email taking into account several fun challenges (i.e. terrible winter weather) and totally surprised Rachel. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love a good scheme. Show these two newly engaged people some love. I had Rachel and Bryan face away from one anot ...

Chris & Esther Wedding {Kalamazoo, MI}
Chris and Esther got married last month in Kalamazoo. Although temps were pretty cold, the excitement and joy kept at least the couple warm (sorry to those in the wedding party who weren't feeling this same warmth!) Later on in the evening, everyone got a chance to heat up on the dance floor, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's start with a little prep. The girls started at Blush (located in the Radisson) and then headed over the reception venue where both the girls and guys got ready. I love the "lockers" in Kalamazoo Country Club, they're better than most cabinets I've seen. I'm just going to leave this right here... No judge ...

Michelle & David Engagement {Dearborn, MI}
Michelle and David met up with me a few weeks before our second boy, Gideon, was born (post on him to follow). We spent the shoot meandering around The Henry Ford museum and only got yelled at once! It was great to get to know a little bit about these two and also explore a very well photographed building for any possible nooks and crannies that would provide a nice space for two engageds. Remember their faces. You'll see some sweet photographs from their wedding later this year.

Iris & Jeff Wedding {Pontiac, MI}
Iris and Jeff were married last year on the East side of Michigan. (If you want to check out their engagement shoot, click here.) Their wedding was full of thoughtful touches and very involved friends and family. The day started at a local salon where the ladies were fortunate enough to be placed right by the window (that's "really optimum" in photographer speak). Lets dive in here and I'll make a few more captions as the day progresses. Jeff and the other guys got ready in a nearby hotel. Just imagine there being some sweet tunes wafting around the hotel room as the groomsmen were ON POINT. This is the exterior of the Lafay ...

Liz & Devin Wedding {Holland, MI}
Liz and Devin got married this past Autumn on the campus of Hope College where they both went to school. I just want to say that this was such an amazing wedding. Family and friends really contributed in amazing ways to transform the reception venue (you'll see it!). There were many small touches that helped you understand the loving playful relationship that Liz and Devin have and their sense of style. This next statement comes with my most serious manly burliness: Liz's dress is Beautastic. Fantiffic. I love it. So *ahem*, dive on into this wonderful day. Relive your memories if you were there. Enjoy the story for what it is if you weren ...

2014: A Black and White year in Review
Hello everyone! 2014 has been a very formative year for my life. Things got real as I learned what it meant to be a good new dad and a caring husband while balancing my standards for great photographic quality and effective communication with clients. Thanks to my selfless wife, Heidi, I was able to make it through the wedding season! I'm not sure how the future (read: the impending second child) will affect my business but I am very grateful for all of my clients and friends that have supported me over the last year with praise, camaraderie, and laughter. Below are some of my favorite black and white images produced over the past ye ...

Amy & Tom Engagement {Ann Arbor, MI}
I met with Tom and Amy in Ann Arbor for their engagement shoot. I know these two beautiful people from my time with the ol' Michigan Marching Band (they play(ed) saxophone). It was such a pleasure to catch up with their lives and get a little slice of the sort of individuals they've become as adults as we visited all sorts of meaningful locations. I'm looking forward to their wedding in 2015 where we'll get to spend more time together. Below is a small selection of highlights. This lady... #SMH.

Jena & Chris Wedding {South Haven, MI}
Last month, Chris and Jena were married on a beautiful bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. For every wedding I shoot, I mentally rank the emphasis that the couple puts on certain aspects of their wedding day. The three things that stuck out to me the most about this wedding were the family, the food, and the celebration. That's not to say that Jena and Chris didn't have an incredible cake (and topper) with the most vibrant flowers I've seen all year. I'm just saying that you could tell what was important to these two and I'm thankful to have been a part of it. Feel free to comment here or over on facebook. Follow my photography page, here. ...

Jeffrey & Iris Engagement {Kalamazoo, MI}
Jeff and Iris met up with me last weekend for a Kalamazoo engagement photography adventure. Their wedding is next month so I slipped these images to the front of my editing line so they'd be done in time to be incorporated into the ceremony and reception. As you guys may or may not know, it's Fall outside so that's primarily what we sought to use as a setting. I actually shot Iris's sister Ariele in this first location too (I just want to fully disclose to everyone) so they wanted to revisit the same location. That was just the beginning. Take a look! Did I mention there are some gifs? You're welcome. See you guys in November! ...
