These are my best friends and I love them. At this point in their lives, they live on the East coast of the U.S. attending their separate graduate schools (:-(). This time next year, however, they will be happily, lovingly married. Without Ben and Steph, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Sure it’s a pretty extreme statement but it’s true. They introduced me to my wife! That’s just one of the many reasons that made me so incredibly excited for the four of us (wifey makes 4) to hang out and take pictures of their love.

I love how these shots with the off-camera flash came out. It did seem pretty extreme to be using it on such a bright day though.
Last week I had the privilege of doing a family photoshoot with Andrew and his extended family along with his fiancé. Andrew’s daughter made the shoot a good learning experience for me and my biggest take-away was to always bring my wife along 
. Heidi helped to convince Kyilei (the daughter) how it’s cool not to frown or look away from the red bearded man (that’s me for all those I haven’t met).
Hoping to get some genuine emotion, I decided to train my lens on Kyilei as she wore herself out eluding me. At first the results were less personal (I found them hilarious)…
…but after sticking with it, I captured some great interaction between Andrew and his daughter.
Now insert Ashley…
… and at long last, everybody is in the mood to smile.
My wife and I had an amazing time kicking it with April and Jason this past Saturday. This couple was a riot to photograph and their wedding party wasn’t half introverted either! April and Jason had their ceremony in Kanley Chapel on the campus of Western Michigan University. and their reception at the beautiful Rose Street Market in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan (let me know if you can find a better link).

My wife and I had a great time with Sarah and Dan on Kalamazoo’s East side. It was super bright out so we tried to stay mostly in the shade to keep the harsh shadows at bay. We had a lot of fun together and I’m looking forward to shooting their wedding this fall.

Last Saturday my wife and I met up with the Alvarez family for a photoshoot in Milham park. The previous night, high winds knocked down plenty of branches and even some trees so the typical route through the park was blocked off. We found a hill above the destruction and goose poop which proved for a great forested background.
