The Wedding of April and Jason!

My wife and I had an amazing time kicking it with April and Jason this past Saturday. This couple was a riot to photograph and their wedding party wasn’t half introverted either! April and Jason had their ceremony in Kanley Chapel on the campus of Western Michigan University. and their reception at the beautiful Rose Street Market in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan (let me know if you can find a better link).

Nine of my photos to be displayed at Indiana cancer care center

On May 24th of this year my aunt told me about an opportunity for my photography to get more exposure. The Michiana Hematology Oncology cancer care center was having a contest for photography to be hung in their new building in Mishawaka, Indiana (here’s more info). I submitted 25 images.

Today I received an e-mail saying that NINE of my images had won! The nine winning images are displayed below. Click on the image to be taken to its flickr page where you can get larger sizes if you… say… want to use it as your desktop wallpaper :-) .

One last thing from the e-mail really excites me: “Two other MHO spaces, in LaPorte and in South Bend, will open later this year. We will keep your images for consideration in those spaces, as well.”

The Alvarez Family

Last Saturday my wife and I met up with the Alvarez family for a photoshoot in Milham park. The previous night, high winds knocked down plenty of branches and even some trees so the typical route through the park was blocked off. We found a hill above the destruction and goose poop which proved for a great forested background.

My photography at Timber Wolf

I’m a big fan of Creative Commons. They provide “free licenses and other legal tools to mark creative work with the freedom [I want] it to carry”* I’ve used it on all my flickr photography and I suspect I will continue to do so in the future because my work has been featured and nearly featured in a variety of venues I never would have dreamed of. There are several documented cases of places my work has been used which I will gradually share in this blog. For the first one, lets roll the clock back to the weekend of October 3rd, 2009.

I headed north for the weekend with some men from the church I belong to. We were attending a mens’ conference called Hearts Alive and Free at Timber Wolfe Lake. The camp is highly attended during the summer months by youth and family. We were there in the cold and wet Fall where a lot of the time is spent in talks about true biblical manliness and how to go about changing our lives. There was also plenty of free time built into the weekend and seeing as I had my camera, I spent a fair amount of time exploring the grounds through the glass eye of my camera.

After going through the cycle of uploading my shots to facebook and getting nice comments, someone suggested that I submit some of my work to the camp itself. I found a comment form online and sent Timber Wolf a link of one of my favorites. On October 15th, I got an e-mail from the camp director basically saying “wow, show me more” so I did. I set up a picasa gallery with some of my favorites and less than a week later, I heard back from the director asking if they could print some for their office, use some on their website, and lastly, use one for the camp Christmas card. I said yes to all three.

June 6th 2010, I received an email with proof of the first requested use (prints for the office) which were printed on 2′x3′ posters and framed. I think the pieces look awesome. I’ll give an update if I’m sent any more shots. Here are links to the respective original work: 1st image, 2nd image.
